A section of the guests
30 years ago the idea of KWAHO was born on the World Women’s Conference
in Mexico. To honour the founders of KWAHO and our Mama KWAHO Margaret
Mwangola (retired long term Executive Director) KWAHO held a function
on the 31st of August 2005 in Nairobi.
The Guest of Honor was H.E. Hon. Dr. A.A. Moody Awori MP, Vice President
and Minister of Home Affairs.
Other guests in attendance were Eng. Gakubia, the Director for Water in
the Ministry of Water and Irrigation; Hon. Engineer Philip Okundi, MP
Rangwe; Prof. Khroda, former PS Ministry of Environment.This was in addition
to the many partners that KWAHO continues to work with from donor agencies,
government ministries and most importantly its target communities
The founder members being recognised were:

Ayodo, Hon. Prof. Wangari Mathai, MP (Nobel Laurette), Mrs. Joan Mjomba,

EcoFest'05
KWAHO celebrated the UN World Environment Day at the "EcoFest 2005" at Carnivore, Nairobi, on 4th of June 2005.
Ecofest 2005 is an initiative of EcoForum Magazine and the Environment Liaison Centre International (ELCI). The aim of the festivities as espoused by the organisers is to have a celebration designed to "entertain, enthuse and educate" people of all ages about environmental concerns.
Besides displaying our programmes and projects we emphasised on the promotion of SODIS and EcoSan where we shared information with lots of very interested visitors.

Awards

Energy Globe - The world award for sustainability
SODIS received the Special Award during the Energy Globe 2004.
The Energy Globe Award is the most significant environmental award worldwide.
Best practice projects and initiatives for a careful and efficient use
of our resources are awarded each year in the categories earth, energy,
water, air and youth. This year more than 600 projects from 100 countries
have applied for the Energy Globe Award.

UN Water Day - Scrolls of Honour Award
In the year 1996 KWAHO has received the UN Water Day - Scrolls of Honour Award for its long term efforts to provide clean and safe water to Kenyan communities.
